A Lavish Blog: My Unforgettable Journey Through Mykonos – Sun, Sea, and Sophisticated Dining

By: Laura Sylvia

The moment I arrived on the idyllic island of Mykonos, I knew this trip would be unlike any other. Greeted by stunning views and the sparkling Aegean, I made my way to the luxurious villa awaiting me. This wasn’t just any villa—it was an oasis of relaxation and beauty, with multiple sunbeds surrounding the infinity pool, which overlooked popular beach clubs like Scorpios and even the mega-yachts drifting in the bay. Every detail was perfection, a dream come true in a landscape that felt like it was made for blissful days in the sun.

Our journey around the island was made even more fun with our adorable Mini Cooper rental—practically essential in Mykonos, where narrow, one-lane roads demand compact cars. The Mini gave us the freedom to explore at our leisure, weaving through the island’s beautiful streets to visit some unforgettable spots. For our first evening, we had a sunset dinner at the Beefbar, where we gathered with friends, some of whom had even built the villa we were staying in. The ambiance was intimate and relaxed, the perfect start to a week of indulging in all the best Mykonos has to offer.

For breakfast, we started each day with a visit to The Liberty Breakfast Room. There’s something so rejuvenating about sitting on a terrace overlooking the sea and the rugged beauty of the Mykonian mountains while enjoying a fresh, healthy meal. The Liberty Breakfast Bowl was everything I needed to fuel my days, packed with Mykonian strained yogurt, superfoods, and fresh fruits. This spot quickly became a favorite, setting the tone for each day with great food and breathtaking views.

One of the most unique dining experiences I had was at Spilia Restaurant, a hidden gem tucked inside an actual seaside cave—“Spilia” literally translates to “cave” in Greek. This spot was the definition of fresh, with sun-dried octopus hanging out front and freshly caught fish that was artfully sliced and served right before us. The setting was magical, perched right on the water with a beach club and sunbeds just outside, perfect for soaking in the sun before or after your meal. If you arrive by boat, the restaurant even offers a tender service to deliver your food directly, an experience I won’t soon forget.

A true highlight was Zuma, a chic Japanese-inspired spot with some of the best seafood, wine, and caviar I’ve ever had. Situated perfectly for the most breathtaking sunset views, Zuma has mastered the art of evening dining in Mykonos. The entrance itself was a luxury experience, created in partnership with Louis Vuitton to provide a grand, stylish welcome that set the tone for an exquisite evening. Each bite was a beautiful balance of tradition and innovation, making it a culinary journey in itself.

In addition to Zuma, I made sure to visit some other exceptional Mykonian restaurants. Mamalouka, tucked away in Mykonos Town, had a charming courtyard setting with an inviting, relaxed vibe. The food here was authentic and heartwarming, showcasing traditional Greek flavors with a modern twist. I also enjoyed Katrin, a hidden gem with an intimate atmosphere and dishes that highlight Greece’s finest ingredients. The attention to detail here, from the plating to the flavors, made it a delightful experience. Taverna gave us a taste of true Greek hospitality in a classic, laid-back setting, where each dish felt like a homemade feast crafted with love. And then there was M-eating, a sophisticated yet cozy spot that serves innovative Greek cuisine with remarkable presentation and vibrant flavors. Each restaurant brought a unique experience to the table, making the island’s dining scene as memorable as its stunning beaches and sunsets.

Of course, Mykonos isn’t just about the food. One of my afternoons was spent windsurfing on one of the island’s breezy beaches, where I met some wonderful locals who introduced me to their favorite spots on the island. A sweet little boy even insisted on finding “the prettiest shells” on the beach to share with me—a charming moment that gave me a taste of Mykonos’s warm-hearted hospitality.

After the day’s adventures, there was nothing better than returning to the villa for a soak in the hot tub, an espresso in hand to energize me for the evening. Watching the sun dip below the horizon from the pool was a moment of pure bliss, and it felt like the entire island was slowly preparing for the night’s vibrant energy.

One of my favorite parts of Mykonos was simply wandering through the town, exploring the chic shops, and soaking in the lively atmosphere. The Mykonos vibe is one-of-a-kind, blending a laid-back beachy feel with upscale glamour. I found myself enchanted by the music playing in the air, which perfectly captured the island’s energy. Since coming back, my playlist has been filled with beach club vibes, especially the song Forever by Hugel, Diplo, Malou, and Yuna—a melody that takes me straight back to those Mykonian nights.

As Mykonos’s popularity grows, it may risk losing a bit of its exclusivity, but I have no doubt it will remain an unforgettable destination. There’s simply nowhere else that combines such stunning beauty, incredible dining, and a uniquely chic energy. For those who crave a mix of relaxation, luxury, and inspiration, Mykonos is the perfect paradise.
